WIWW?

June 15, 2011

I know, I know, I typed the WIAW acronym wrong.  That’s because I planned on today’s post being a “Where I Went Wednesday” post, but I couldn’t resist and ended up snapping a picture of most of my meals anyways.

So please enjoy this WIAW/WIWW combo post.

Oh and help me thank our host by visiting her lovely page and joining the party.

Peas and Crayons

So where did I go today?

I went on a run.

IMG_1476

It amazes me how big a time difference there can be between my first and last miles.  As in my first mile seems like a crawl compared to the last.  I’m okay with negative splits though and feeling like a rockstar as I sprint to the finish.

And what did I eat?

Overnight oats topped with granola, strawbs and the good stuff, aka peanut butter.

IMG_1479

The granola was a an attempt at a new homemade version.  A tropical version, if you will.  I’m not so sure I like it.  But then again I say that about every batch of granola I make and end up eating it by the handful anyways.

IMG_1480

Then where did I go?

I went to get a massage.

IMG_1481

Where I had to explain to my mom that the bruises on the backs of my arms are from doing crow pose in yoga.

Then…

I went to pick up a mid-morning pick me up for my mom.

IMG_1482

It was the least I could do as a thanks for the massage 🙂

Mom doesn’t mess around with the iced lattes.  Venti or bust.

IMG_1483

I may have had one of my own except all decaf and only a grande.

So what did I eat for lunch?

A baked tofu, hummus, sprouts and basil sandwich.

IMG_1484

I’d been craving sprouts on a sandwich for a while and finally remembered to write it down on my grocery list.  If it’s not written, I will never remember it at the store.

Who knew basil and sprouts went so well together?

IMG_1485

By the way, this Dakota bread from Great Harvest set me back $7.  Sheesh!  And in my opinion, not terribly worth it.

IMG_1486

And where did I eat this?

At the Rockies game, of course!

IMG_1488

I’m officially considering myself good luck.  We won last night and today, I attended both games.

IMG_1490

And munched on an apple that Joey thought was too pretty to be eaten around the 6th inning.

IMG_1489

I swear apples sometimes make me more hungry, rather than less.

IMG_1491

I made a mad dash home for a snack.

In the form of cereal, almonds and raisins, naturally.

Crunchy Vanilla Sunrise makes my world go ‘round.

IMG_1492

Now I’m sitting in my sunny kitchen waiting for dinner to cook and Joey to come home so we can eat and head out yet again.  This time for a softball game!

Where did you go and what did you eat today?

New

June 14, 2011

Well, friends, it’s happened.

I just couldn’t wait any longer.

IMG_1444

Fresh strawberries are officially back in my life.

(And gosh darnit, why can’t I manage to take a picture without the strap of my camera hanging down in the corner??)

I went through a period in my life where I could not live without fresh strawberries.  They ended up in my grocery cart every.single.week. without fail.  Then frugality got a hold of me and I figured I could hold out until they were actually in season so I wouldn’t have to pay some ridiculously high price for them.

Oh and extra ridiculously high because I refuse to buy anything but organic.

IMG_1445

I know they’re form California, but hey, at least they’re not from Thailand **cough, bag of shrimp on my counter right now, cough**

I’m not really a stickler for buying organic, but strawberries are the #1 pesticide ridden food, so they’re the exception.

IMG_1446

Can’t wait to throw these on top some oats.  Or cereal.  Or a salad.  Or just straight into my mouth.

IMG_1447

Strawberries aren’t the only thing I splurged on this week.

IMG_1452

Why is is that Target only sells giant spoon rests?

IMG_1453

And now we have something to keep all our cooking utensils in.  I believe it rang up as a “utensil crock.”

IMG_1454

I don’t care what it’s called as long as we don’t have to keep pulling spoons and spatulas out of a plastic grocery bag.

IMG_1455

And finally a new can opener.  The one we had before was cheap and crappy and I had to mentally prepare before using it, or mentally prepare to admit to Joey that I couldn’t do it and could he open this can of black beans please?

IMG_1456

Oddly enough, I was the one that suggested Joey purchase the old useless one, because it was cheapest and we didn’t live together so what did I care if he had a functioning can opener.  Little did I know I’d be inheriting it…

Oh and did you notice the new fancy backgrounds?

IMG_1457

I’ll spare you from having to look at that stripped towel ever again.

Maybe…

IMG_1459

I also managed to end up with some unnecessary clothing purchases in my cart as well.  Hey, a girl has to have new clothes once in a while.

IMG_1460 Don’t worry I remembered to get some shirts for work as well.  Will someone tell clothing designers to make some better looking collared shirts?

And here’s something new and different.  I’m actually going to a Rockies game tonight.  It’s been SO long.  Let’s make believe they keep losing because I’m their good luck charm, shall we?

Enough about me, what’s new in your life?

Life Update

June 13, 2011

Although moving, cleaning and getting used to the whole “I’m not a student anymore” thing have been taking up most of my time lately, there have been a few other things going on in my life as of late.  None of which are probably noteworthy, but I promised to share more of my non-food related life happenings, so here we go.

I’m now accepting donations for the “Buy Lauren a new laptop” charity.

My laptop may officially be dead.  I’m hoping it’s just the battery, otherwise all those pictures and every single college paper I’ve ever written and insist on hoarding for the rest of my life are gone forever.  Good thing I keep a hard copy of those papers too.

But really, I would be sad about losing the pictures.  My iTunes however, not so much.

I’ve become quite accustomed to the indoor picnic.

More because we had no furniture in the old apartment for about 3 days before we actually moved and less because I wanted an indoor picnic.  And I assure you the picnics I was having did not involve cute pillows, blankets, vases of flowers or Pellegrino.

Or real plates.

Or more than one person.

Maybe I should continue this tradition in the new place and involve the cuter indoor picnic elements, though.

Sunburn.

Need I say more?

Okay, my burn wasn’t actually that bad but I’m a firm believer in practicing safe sun-tanning.  As in I usually dose myself in sunscreen and/or hide my face in a towel.  I can’t even begin to tell you how many pictures we have from family vacation of me looking like Mother Theresa wrapped in my towel.

Hannah and I hit up our pool one last time before moving and although we sunscreened we still ended up pretty burned.  Let’s put it this way, after I took my bathing suit off, I still looked like I had a bathing suit on.

I bruised my hip with my own elbow.

Don’t even ask.  Apparently I’m into self-inflicted pain lately.

I’m officially the world’s slowest reader.

I bought Atlas Shrugged almost a month ago and am only 100 pages in.

I spent the last 4 years learning how to read 100+ pages a night and now when I actually have free time to read, I completely forget how to do so.

Or maybe I haven’t forgotten I’ve just been distracted by…

Sex and the City.

Joey and I have been averaging 4 episodes a night.  Don’t even give me any “you watch too much TV” lectures.  I couldn’t care less.  I just know SATC may be the world’s greatest show.

I’m surprised Joey hasn’t asked me to stop saying “Oh yeah, this is the one where…” every time a new episode starts.

Apparently I’m on a turquoise kick.

IMG_1440

To this day, I cannot remember where that scar came from.  I blame some kitten with sharp claws.

IMG_1441

My favorite new purchase:

IMG_1431

ONION GOGGLES!!!!

Okay, so that’s kind of food related, but I couldn’t help myself.

Also, I swear Joey knowingly posed for this picture.

And now I’m off to conquer a to-do list that includes a trip to Comcast and the search for a kitchen utensil holder.

Preferably one that looks like this.

Or maybe just like this.

What has been going on in you lives lately??
