October Superlatives and November Goals
Happy November!
How was everyone’s Halloween? I dressed up for work and got many an odd stare while driving there. What, like you don’t wear zebra ears in the car?? And we had a bunch of little trick-or-treaters… at a coffee shop. Is it just me or is that a little weird?
Anyways, my night ended with me getting home around 10:45 when I was scheduled to work till 10 and I may or may not have had a minor mental breakdown as soon as I got in the door. In other words, I need a new job. A real job. And I need it bad.
But enough complaining for now. In honor of the end of one month and the start of the next, I thought I’d do some October superlatives and then some November goals.
October Superlatives:
Best Race: Denver Rock’n’Roll Half Marathon
Um, I still can’t read this post without feeling all emotional. So.darn.proud. of Joey 🙂
Most Informative: What You Will See at an Expo
Best Restaurant Review: Snooze in Boulder
Most Popular: WIAW: A Day of Firsts
Most Honest: On Not Fitting In
Most Helpful: My Mother, the Ultimate Prepper
November Goals:
I’m usually not one to make a list of monthly goals — I feel it just puts too much pressure on me and sets me up for failure — but I think if I put some realistic, not too serious goals, I can be more successful.
1. Rediscover my inner reader

There was once a day when I could knock out more than one book in a week. And that day was about 6 months ago. Ya know, when I was an English major who loved to read. Now I’m embarrassed to admit I’ve been “reading” the same book for months! Time to get back on track.
2. Make strength training and yoga a priority

If only.
It’s easy to slip into the routine of running every other day and that’s it. Training taught me to love kind of enjoy lifting. And being completely sore after skipping yoga for two weeks and then finally going to a class taught me to not neglect my love of downward dog. At home yoga counts too!
3. Put some real effort into finding a new job — notice how I didn’t say “find a new job.” Less pressure, remember?

4. Run 65 miles in November

And if you need some running inspiration, search “running” on pinterest.
Have I mentioned that I’ve changed my running mentality from “This is hard, I just want to be done” to “I can bust out this run no problem because I’m awesome!” Yeah, sometimes you just need a change in attitude to turn things around 🙂
5. Be better about making time to sit down and eat meals

And now I really just want grilled cheese.
Now that I’ve let go of car eating, my next goal is to make sure I have ample time to sit down and eat meals. I’m notorious for lollygagging before I have to be somewhere and then saying, “Ohmygod, I have to lift, shower and eat in the next half an hour!!”
Which brings me to #6.
6. Submit a bill to have more hours added to the day.
Plausible, right?

What were some of your best moments in October?
Do you have any goals for this month?
Happy Halloween!
Scariest parts of the weekend include:
- waking up to a sink filled to the brim with dirty dishes
- seeing 5-year old girls in skinny jeans and knee-high boots holding purses and Starbucks
- the fact that I found my Halloween costume at Forever 21… and no, they don’t have a costume section
- that the only produce in my kitchen is a 5 pound bag of carrots — I’m out of bananas so I’m having cereal for breakfast, which means I’ll be hungry again in about ten minutes
- seeing yourself tagged in pictures on Facebook — ‘nuff said, right?
- watching your boyfriend try to make his own candles because you’re out and he needs to see what his carved pumpkin looks like lit up right now.
- how bad I Know What You Did Last Summer is — only made worse by the fact that you’ve seen Scary Movie way too many times and just keep thinking about the parody version while you watch the real version
- that your mom, dad and sister all now have iPhones, but you don’t even have a smart phone
- that it’s somehow Halloween already!!
Despite the fact that I’m kinda freaking out that it’s going to be November tomorrow, I’m happy that I ended October on a good note, with some pumpkin carving, “scary” movie watching, mac and cheese eating and costume partying.
Joey insists on doing a difficult design every.single.year.
I insist on doing the easiest one.
My sister wanted to be old school and draw her own design.
I seriously think this is adorable and every time I look at it I say, “awww!”
My pink panther plans were thwarted by my inability to get that costume together in a few hours, so I went the zebra route.
Although I would have been warmer if I had worn a hot dog suit like Joey.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a fridge to restock.
Happy Halloween!
