You Say It’s Your Birthday

April 10, 2012

I’m a huge believer in the power of the following statement.

It’s my birthday!

As in, “You have to, it’s my birthday!” or “I want cake for breakfast, it’s my birthday!”

I believe this all started when my parents took me to Disneyland for my birthday one year. We stayed at a Disney hotel, I got a pin that said my name and “It’s my birthday!” and from then on it was a free for all of epic “It’s my birthday” proportions. I found that every time I said it, I got what I wanted. A monster was born.

But just like everyone who humored me on my day, I feel it’s only fair to humor others on their day.

Or, if you’re Joey, your week. So if it’s your birthday, feel free to take advantage.

Open presents.

Drink beer.

Eat burgers.

Have margaritas.

Don’t share your complimentary dessert.

Do wear a sombrero.

Play in your league basketball game after aforementioned margaritas.

Order 10 rolls of sushi.

Still don’t share the complimentary dessert.

Follow up dessert with ice cream.

Drag everyone out to the bars the night before Easter, knowing everyone has to be up early the next day…

Force your girlfriend to be your personal DD for four out of seven days of the week…

And then, for the love of God, put your birthday to rest.

Till next year.

Easter Sunday

April 9, 2012

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter.

Full of Easter basket gifts.

I keep telling my mom I’m too old for Easter baskets and that she doesn’t have to go through the trouble anymore, but she rarely listens to me.

Full of family.

We had a full house yesterday morning for brunch.  Complete with a 3-year-old, a 10-month-old, a crazy dachshund, an out-of-towner and the usual craziness of my family.

Oh and a lot of delicious food.  Is there anything better than homemade brunch?

How about homemade brunch and a coffee buzz?  Ohhh yeah.

In this family, it’s totally normal to lay the baby in the middle of the kitchen table…

Full of bright colors.

Be it bright shirts.  Joey and I dressed as Easter eggs this year.

Bright sunshine.  It’s gorgeous here in Colorado.  Perfect for park playing and chalk drawing.

Or bright smiles.

How did you spend your Easter Sunday?

Happy Opening Day, Rockies fans!

Friday Things

April 6, 2012

1. We went out to dinner for Joey’s birthday three times this week.  Three!!  And the celebration is not even over.  There’s still dinner with my family tonight and dinner with his extended family on Sunday.  Who does this kid think he is??

2. I HATE BUGS.  It’s the kind of hatred that necessitates bold and capitals.  If I have to go on one more run where bugs are continuously colliding with my face, I might freak out.  In fact, I will definitely freak out.

3. Every time I turn the light on in my kitchen it flickers for at least 15 seconds before coming completely on.  I feel like I’m having a seizure every morning.

4. I have at least four half written posts in my draft folder.  If I wasn’t so busy celebrating someone’s birthday every night, I might have time to actually finish one.

5.  I’ve been re-reading old posts of mine.  I love to read old things I wrote.  Which may explain why I have almost every single paper I’ve written since, oh, probably high school in a drawer in my closet.  Except I haven’t had a desire to re-read any of those… ever.

6.  I signed up for “America’s All Time Best 10K,” Bolder Boulder.  And it really is the best.  If I can finish, that is.

7.  Things I’m obsessed with this week include: oranges, obnoxious pop songs (Karmin and Justin Beiber, I’m looking at you!) and the smell of blossoms.

8.  My uncle sent me goodies from New Orleans this week.  I’m beyond excited and extremely grateful.

9. This week, I set a personal record of most blog followers in one day.  And I was pretty sure my readership was headed in the opposite direction.  Boo-ya!

10. My cousin flew in yesterday for a week long visit.  I don’t even know the last time she was in Colorado, but I’m pretty sure I was a baby.  So it doesn’t even count.  Also, it’s her birthday tomorrow, so the trip needs to be extra fun.  Challenge accepted.

Happy Friday!
