First Cookie Mishap

December 19, 2011

Well, this was bound to happen.

No, those aren’t supposed to look like that.
They’re supposed to look like this.
Why in the world I thought refrigerating dough that was supposed to chill for half an hour, for two days was a good idea is beyond me. Something tells me it was the shock of cold dough to hot oven that did me in.

The good news is, frosting makes everything better. But we’ve already been over that, haven’t we?
So instead of telling you how I was totally wow-ed by my own ability to recreate the Oreo, I’ll show you pictures of pretty frosting and well call it a day.

I won’t even mention the fact that I went to not one, but two, grocery stores looking for food coloring. That part just makes this cookie failure even more depressing.

So, despite the fact that these cookies turned out as flat as a pancake and have a weird texture, the frosting makes them really festive-looking and taste pretty okay.
Joey keeps eating them. Which really says nothing, because he’ll eat anything.

They’re slightly greasy, as you can see…

Anyways, my point is, we’re all human and if I get through 12 batches of cookies and this is the only mess-up, I’ll be a happy girl. Never in a million years, would I have thought myself capable of trying so many different types of cookies, from vegan to butter-filled, simple and fast to labor intensive.
And every cookie has been a learning experience. This cookie’s lesson was “eating butter, shortening and red dye sandwiched between to chocolate cookies is both frightening and extremely delicious.” Oh and don’t over chill your dough. But that one’s less important 🙂

Are you a fan of Oreos? If you say no, I say you’re a liar!

Are you the type to get upset when you make baking mistakes or just shrug it off?

What kitchen mishap have you had recently?

Hahaha I am the queen of kitchen mishaps. I’ve made some truly awful things. I tried to make a similar cookie once and it just like, melted on the pan. It was so weird and gross looking!

Haha if you haven’t had a mishap then you haven’t been in the kitchen! Happens to everyone. The icing does look tasty though and I love Oreos!

It happens. I made oreo’s once but they turned out way too sweet.

Just had a marathon cookie baking gala at my house yesterday with three girlfriends. Whew! my kitchen is a mess, but what fun! Only one disaster in the cookie department. Tons of great cookies to share but have to say my favorite are Trader Joe’s chocolate covered peppermint Jo-Jo’s. 🙂 To die for!! Have to ‘hide’ them from myself. lol

I would love to bake cookies in you gorgeous kitchen!! It sounds like they have the best treats at TJ’s, but we don’t have one in CO 😦

The icing does look really good, I would eat one!

I like oreos, but I do have to say they aren’t a first choice. Unless they came with that gorgeous frosting, then I might change my mind…

Definitely not my first choice either. Homemade cookies always come before packaged ones!

Mmm, and now I’m dreaming of homemade cookies. Definitely putting in a request with the family for some good oatmeal raisin ones, because homemade cookies you don’t have to make yourself are even better than the regular homemade ones…

So they look a bit flat buy I bet they taste divine! My hubby would live the “double stuff” version of these 😉
