WIAW: Slideshow

August 10, 2011

Well it seems I’m not the only wondering where summer went.  I’m especially wondering it today, as it’s cloudy and cool here in Colorado.  It’s making me feel all kinds of sleepy.  Good thing I have a massage and candlelight yoga planned for today 🙂

But not before a little partying.

Peas and Crayons

Apparently I was a little camera happy yesterday and took a slew of food pictures so let’s just roll with it and consider this a slideshow edition of WIAW, shall we?

Action!

Breakfast:

Chocolate chip banana pancake stack, layered with homemade jam and freezer jam alternately and topped with chocolate hazelnut butter and maple syrup.

Timber!

I kid you not when I say I was “mmm”-ing and “ahhh”-ing the entire time I ate this.

Lunch:

Remember when I said I still wanted to go on a summer picnic?

Check!

Leftover curry chickpea burgers, carrots/chips & hummus and a dessert failure, oops.

Dinner:

Thai Crunch Salad from the Peas and Thank You cookbook.

Except that I can’t follow directions and ended up making a few changes of my own that included adding soba noodles and using peanut butter instead of almond butter for the dressing.  What can I say, I’m cheap.

IMG_2293 IMG_2296 IMG_2297 IMG_2294 I realize those are all the same picture at different angles.  Get over it.

Snack:

Koka Moka Pro Bar.

Has anyone ever had one of these?  I thought it was pretty good (thanks, Dad!).

Note how it has 360 calories and is considered a “meal bar” and I totally ate it as a snack.

Quite the ingredient list but apart from the last few ingredients, I knew what everything on the list was!

Also note how the number of pictures I took decreased with every meal.

And that concludes the most picture-filled WIAW post ever.

Happy Wednesday!

All of your foods look amazing! Especially your breakfast. I think you need to make them for me 🙂
My dream picnic would include PB&J sandwich, apples, veggies, and some lemonade! It would be perfect
My favorite snack bar is probably clif bars or Luna bars.

Mmmm, some fresh lemonade would have hit the spot.

Mmmm woah, I NEED to get Mama Pea’s cookbook but I have been unwilling to spend the money so far…I’ve been diligently entering every giveaway I’ve found…but that salad is further convincing me that I should probably stop being cheap and just buy the thing. Your picnic looks so nice, I need to have a picnic before summer is over!

    • August 10, 2011 4:56 PM

In all honesty, I LOVE Mama Pea, but I feel like her blog has just as good of recipes as the book (if not better…), plus the stories she tells are funny no matter where you read them.

yes i agree that your breakfast would make me say yummy the whole time also!!! dinner looks great also, I have to go check that cookbook out!

    • August 10, 2011 4:52 PM

It was the first time I’d tried a recipe from the book and I was not disappointed!

Well, hello, breakfast! And I’ve never been very adventurous with bars. I like Luna bars and Clif bars, but I’m sure some of the funkier brands out there are much tastier. I consistently eat meal bars as snacks, too 😀 Is anyone satisfied with just one of those bars for a meal??

    • August 10, 2011 4:51 PM

God I hope not! It sounds like I need to try Luna bars!

  6. August 10, 2011 3:18 PM

woah! this slideshow defs made me hungry!! amazing eats girl and happy WIAW. Watermelon is a MUST for any picnic of mine. LUNA’s are my snack bar of choice 🙂

    • August 10, 2011 4:47 PM

I almost went out and bought a watermelon to bring, but figured since the point of the picnic in the first place was to save money, it didn’t make sense to go buy something.

Hey lady just found your blog!
Quite a slide show you have going on here… amazing 🙂
I have never tried that type of bar because the high calorie content always freaked me out a bit. But it looks so good, I am going to juts HAVE to try it 😉

  8. August 10, 2011 4:33 PM

I love picnics.. esp. riding our bicycles to wherever we are picnicing. They usually include sandwiches, chips, and fruit.

I thought it was a good idea too but they didn’t come out all that wonderful 😦

Omigosh that pancake stack made me swoooooooon, and I love the idea of a summer picnic! For some reason, food always tastes better when eaten outside. Like on camping trips, a piece of bread topped with almond butter tastes like the most amazing thing ever. I have no idea why that is, but I love it 😀 Some of my picnic must haves are watermelon, fruit salad, lemonade, hummus, veggies, and chips. And I can’t eat a lot of the snack bars out there because of my allergies, so I usually just make my own when I’m craving one.

  11. August 10, 2011 7:07 PM

That looks like a great snack bar! I am loving Raw Crunch bars lately!

  12. August 10, 2011 7:36 PM

Those pancakes are seriously making me drool!

  13. August 11, 2011 3:12 PM

oh nooooo! sorry about the wonton fail! the pancakes and everything else look like they beyoooond made up for it though! ahh yum! I want!
