Raise Your Hand If…

May 24, 2011

First and foremost, thank you all for your encouraging comments on my non-food related post yesterday.  I’m thinking this would be a good thing to continue on the bloggie, except maybe next time with my own pictures.  Yay or nay?

Now, raise your hand if…

You love peas and asparagus.

001

Sauteed in a little butter and a drizzle of honey, delicious.

And if you think they belong on top a pizza.

003

And if you think it’s perfectly acceptable to make two pizzas because you can’t decide on whether you want sauce or not.

004

Raise your hand if…

You accidentally let out a squeal of excitement when you find a new-to-you peanut butter with an amazing ingredient list for $2.

005

Yes, that does just say peanuts.

006

If you’re equally excited to find liquid smoke without having to travel to Whole Foods.

007

Somehow I don’t think I’ll be using this on any brisket.  More like mushrooms…

008

Raise your hand if…

Bright colored foods make you happy.

Roasting corn for Mama Pea’s Tamale Pie

001

Kale and onion for sour cream and onion kale chips – make these!  You can totally do it in the oven, no dehydrator necessary.

005

Twice baked sweet potato, a la Emily.

009

Raise your hand if…

You decided the gloomy/rainy weather wasn’t going to bring you down today!

And ensured that it wouldn’t by starting your morning off with oats in an almost empty PB jar, then hitting up FREE morning yoga and having an indoor BBQ for lunch.

Okay, it’s probably just me on that one.  And it would be creepily coincidental if you were raising your hand right now.

Mushroom “bacon,” aka mushrooms dowsed in liquid smoke and baked on 350 degrees for 20ish minutes.

016

Plus BBQ-seasoned baked tofu and homemade hummus on my last WF ciabatta roll.

017

018

019

Who says you can’t have BBQ on a gloomy day?

I’m considering doing What I Ate Wednesday tomorrow, but am not so sure about the whole daily eats thing.  Thoughts/advice?

Happy Tuesday!

Yeeea for liquid smoke! I still have to try it on mushrooms. Those sour cream and onion kale chips spell out all sorts of ingenious, though. Must try!
I am all for WIAW, but it’s whatever you’re comfortable with! I always end up just having a conglomeration of meals that get left out of daily blogging but in a coherent b,l,d and snack. I never usually show my late night snacks though, which is something I should post about!

Yes you should! I’m not a late night snacker, but that might have something to do with the fact that I usually end up eating dinner late and zonk out soon after!

*raises hand* Yes to pretty much everything 😀 I actually think I literally DID let out a little squeak when I came across a new delicious sounding coffee in the store today… might have gotten some strange looks with that one.

I was a bit hesitant to do WIAW at first as well, but it’s actually quite fun. It’s just one day a week, so it’s not too big of a pain in the butt, and it can be a good way to encourage others to EAT like women and not like birds.

    • May 24, 2011 11:11 PM

And there is certainly not bird eating going on here!

I’m raising my hand over here! I love liquid smoke, I usually can’t get to a real grill or smoker so I put it in a lot of things to get that wonderful flavor. I haven’t done WIAW before but you should go for it!

Love liquid smoke. I’d probably add it to everything including my oats if it was acceptable 😉

You know how I feel about writing what you want instead of what you think you “should” because you have a food blog…just go for it. I love reading what you have to write regardless of the content. 🙂

I’m glad you’re here to keep me thinking straight, Lindsay!

I really need to try that mushroom bacon… but I have to locate liquid smoke first.
WIAW is pretty easy.. you don’t need to have every single thing you ate photographed- it could be even just one meal that you feel like sharing!

    • May 24, 2011 11:10 PM

Good point, Eleah. I might go with the one meal thing 🙂

  7. May 25, 2011 5:08 AM

Love your photos! And I didn’t know that liquid smoke was something that normal people (read: not a BBQ chip manufacturer) could buy! I’m looking into that!

  8. May 25, 2011 5:11 AM

One more thing — This is the first I’ve heard of WIAW. Do many food bloggers do this?

    • May 25, 2011 9:33 AM

Carrie, head over to Peasandcrayons.com, she does a huge link up of lots of bloggers WIAW posts!

I vote yay 🙂 I really enjoyed yesterday’s post. Although I love your regular ones as well. I’ve tried the eggplant bacon and loved it, mushrooms are next on my list! I was so excited to find liquid smoke… at a butcher’s counter in the flea market haha – like you, I don’t think I’ll be taking any of the bottle’s suggestions.

    • May 25, 2011 9:36 AM

I didn’t know flea markets had butcher’s counters!! All that matters is that you found it 🙂
