I Feel the Need

May 19, 2011

For greens.

That rhymes, right?  It’s a slant rhyme.  I think?  That’s something an English major should know.

Anyways, the point is in the past 10 days I’ve consumed way more fried foods, sugar and meat than normal and my body noticed.  Surprise surprise.

Let’s get two things straight:

1. I don’t regret eating any of that good-tasting-but-not-so-good-for-you food while I was on vacation, but…

2. I can’t say I felt like a million bucks while doing it.

And maybe that never ending headache had more to do with sleeping on an air mattress than with eating fried chicken, but I’m more than ready to get back to eating like a normally do.

This means…

Buckwheat bakes.

With cherries.

And homemade granola.

And hazelnut butter.

001

Or with a drizzle of almond milk and almond butter sauce (more on that at a later date).

017

018

Soup.

With carrots.

And apples.

And fresh ginger.

010

011

Salad.

With tempeh “croutons.”

And really, I don’t care what’s in it, as long as it’s fresh and not fried.

What foods do you crave most when you’re on vacation?

Usually I can’t stop thinking about hummus and raw veggies.  Or just veggies in general!

    Oatmeal!

Fresh fruit and my cabbage slaw salads too.

I always want to eat healthfully on vacations because I know I”ll regret it. However, I will also regret not getting something I wouldn’t be able to get normally!

I’ll be there for breakfast in the morning. I’d like option B, please; I’m all about almond butter sauce 😉

It’s all good and fun when you are eating all the great foods, and then a day later your body is like “what the hell.” I had that experience yesterday. Bleh.

At least you know exactly what you need to do to get back on track! I know I’m going to eat tons of crap when I go to NYC this December.. but that’s what vacation is for! The times I have been on vacation, I usually crave oatmeal. My family eats at lots of not-veggie friendly places so I end up eating a lot of salad.

Hopefully it’s the “wow this is fresh and delicious” kind of salads and not the iceberg with ranch kind! I truly believe your body will tell you what it needs and everything will naturally balance itself out so by all means go enjoy yourself in NYC, even if that means having a few less than healthy foods 🙂

I always start craving fresh fruits and veggies like CRAZY if I go through a few days without them. There was a time I thought I was eating a little TOO healthy, so I tried including more junk food in my diet just to be sure I wasn’t getting all health obsessed, but I really didn’t even enjoy it that much and it made me feel a little blah. I love the occasional indulgence, but a diet made up of whole, fresh foods is what makes me feel the best 😀
