Back From the Dead

June 12, 2011

Oh, hello.  Did you forget about me?

Don’t worry, I did not forget about any of you, although it was sort of nice to take a break from the blogging scene for a weekend.  And really, just a break from the internet altogether.  This was due to the fact that we just got our internet set up at the new place and because every night when I got home from work I promptly crashed into my bed.  Who knew being on your feet for hours at a time was so exhausting.  I swear my knees are bleeding from the inside.  Okay, that totally makes me criiiiiinge.  Sorry!

So, the big move wasn’t actually all that big, considering we moved from an apartment complex on one side of the street to a different complex on the other side of the street, but moving is just such a hassle.  I prayed every night that I would wake up as Harry Potter and I could just wave my wand and everything would be moved, but no such luck.

The move was bittersweet.  I loved our old place and our old roommates (Hannah and Josh, I already miss you!), but our lease was up and it was time to part ways.  I guess I just don’t like change, but a change of scenery can be good and we will definitely have new adventures in the new place.

Upsides:

  • An attached bathroom!  I didn’t like having to share by bathroom with guests, can you blame me?
  • A window in the kitchen!!  Goodbye, artificial lighting and hello dinner pictures.
  • A fan above our bed! Our last apartment was always SO hot
  • Our new roommate has a Lovesac.  Need I say more?
  • Bigger patio.  It was a tight squeeze between the grill and the railing at the old place.

Downsides:

  • This giant window in our room.

Oh great, because I totally don’t mind waking up at dawn everyday.

  • We have a lot less storage space.  I obviously mean kitchen storage.  Who cares where Joey’s bowling bag goes?

Our kitchen table looks a lot better now, but this is what it looked like when we first moved in.

IMG_1423

No, I don’t knead need 10 mugs, so who knows why I have that many.

  • That I don’t get to see this lady every day.  Or every other day – sometimes we were busy, okay?!

IMG_1424

But Joey and I did get to have a celebratory dinner with them after we everyone but me cleaned out the old apartment.  (I was working, I swear!)

Bash on chains all you want, but I enjoy the Village Tavern.  And their outdoor seating.  And the fact that the sun didn’t go down till 9 PM.  Oh yeah!

Don’t enjoy when my salad is the most expensive thing on the bill, though.  I blame the shrimp.

IMG_1425

Brightest sweet potato fries ever.  With Joey’s burger.  I swear everywhere makes sweet potato fries now.  I’m okay with that.

IMG_1426

Like I told Hannah, you just can’t go wrong with their pizza.  I think she would agree.

IMG_1427

“Pose that plate, Josh.”  And did he ever.

IMG_1428

We still have some random things to put away in our room and that whole finding room in the kitchen thing, but for the most part we’re all settled in and thank goodness.

Oh and I’m starting to settle in at work too.  Please be kind to your barista (this is the term for the person who makes your coffee drinks in case you’re name is Joey and you have no idea what a barista is :P), there is so much that goes into making those drinks.  My brain is maxed out with information and drink recipes.  I plan on writing a post about the adjustments I’ve had to make now that I’m working, so watch out for that one remind me when I forget.

I’m off to enjoy our first homemade dinner in the new place!

Happy Sunday 🙂

Gone Fishing

June 9, 2011

And by fishing I mean moving.

I honestly wish I was one of those bloggers with superpowers that make it possible to have crazy busy lives and still maintain a regular posting schedule, but alas I am not.

I am however, one of those people who gets stressed really easily.  I’ve been running around like a mad woman, trying to pack, move, clean and still make it to work on time, but something’s gotta give here.

And that something is blogging.  In other words, don’t expect to see me until this jam-packed weekend is over.  And then regularly scheduled posting shall resume.  Along with meals that aren’t eaten out of plastic containers and shoveled into my mouth, workouts that don’t involve lifting boxes and writing that doesn’t take place on the floor in the middle of my living room because we have no furniture.

So, ciao for now!

WIAW: I’m a Lucky Girl

June 8, 2011

Oh hello.  It’s that time of the week again.  It’s funny how apprehensive I was about jumping on the WIAW bandwagon and now I can’t wait for Wednesday to roll around so I can participate.

This may or may not have taken place last night as I was driving Joey and I home after his softball game.

Me: Guess what tomorrow is.

Joey: What?

Me: WHAT I ATE WEDNESDAY!!! *Puts hand in the air for a high-five*

What can I say, I like to party.  So let’s get this one started.

Peas and Crayons

I was not off to a good start this morning by forgetting to take a picture of my pre-morning run snack.  But it looked a little something like this.

Date filled with nut butter, except this morning it was chocolate almond butter.  Doughy chocolatey goodness.

Real breakfast immediately followed my run.

Overnight oats:

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 small banana
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds

Topped with:

  • coconut granola
  • crunchy peanut butter
  • very berry coffee cake crumbles – one of the perks of working at a coffee shop is getting to take home pastries at the end of the night 🙂

I’m a very lucky girl and was treated to lunch and a massage by my mama and I’d like to think I treated her with my presence and by suggesting we get pizza at Lucky Pie because unlike the part of the family she has to live with, I can do gluten and dairy.

We shared a pizza so we started with salads.

IMG_1419

House salad with some incredibly delicious dressing, but next time remind me to order no onions.  Red onion chunks just rub me my taste buds the wrong way.

Then on to the main event: pizza!

IMG_1420

Puttanesca Pizza: tomato sauce, olives, capers, roasted garlic, oregano, chile flakes.

This pizza had me at capers and olives – loooove both – like ‘used-to-get-a-jar-of-capers-in-my-stocking/Easter-basket’ love.  That’s normal, right?  Turns out this pizza was vegan but of course us cheese lovers had to add some mozzarella.  It was a good decision.

Okay this is the part of the post where things get a little messed up.  In real time I haven’t actually gotten to the whole snack/dinner part of the day so here are some examples of both from earlier in the week.

I may not mention how often I eat cereal on the blog, but it’s one of my favorite snacks.  Although I always end up adding fruit, nuts or more likely, both.

IMG_1400

Cereal with almonds and banana, apple, date muffin that I toasted in the oven and smeared with some Earth Balance.

Yeah, I think I’m gonna have to go grab me one of those muffins right now!

And I’ll share last night’s dinner.

IMG_1401

I’m fairly sure this was my first time eating radishes and was surprised by the taste.  They’ve got a bite to them!  But I really enjoyed them.  But what’s not to enjoy – just look at those colors.

IMG_1402

This dinner was fabulous.  Good work, Cooking Light.

Orecchiette with Peas, Shrimp and Buttermilk-Herb Dressing

Glad I doubled the recipe with this one.  Leftovers, here I come!

And here’s an interesting fact.  Usually I don’t snack at night since I eat dinner late but lately I’ve been ending the night with a snack.  Moving must make you hungry.  I wonder what I’ll have tonight!

What were you lucky enough to do/eat today?
