Spring Things

March 26, 2012

When it comes to my season rankings, I’ll admit, Spring is probably second to last, but this entire week/weekend was soooo sunny and nice, I’m starting to have a new found appreciation for Spring.

Also, I like commas.  As evidenced by the sentence above.

Anyways, it turns out there’s a lot of great things about Spring.

Like the 5280 deal going on in Colorado.

Hannah and I are sangria people.  And sangria people are the best kind of people.  Obviously.

Also note that any picture involving bread being dipped in cheddar cheese in the background is to be forgiven its terrible lighting.

Fact: I love love love fondue.

Like outdoor bike sales in Boulder.

Going to this sale only confirmed the reason I’ve never taken up bike riding.  Even on sale these bikes were in the $600-2500 range.  Call me crazy, but I can’t commit to spending that much money on an activity I’m not even sure I’ll like!

Looks like I’ll be taking my bike search to Craigslist.

Like lunch on the patio weather.

If I’m in Boulder and I need food, there’s no question about it, I’m going to Mod Market.

Like test driving a new car in the sunshine.

Okay, that’s not a Springtime activity, per se, but I’m trying to work with a theme here.

Here I am forcing Joey to test drive a Subaru.  Because nothing is more Colorado than driving a Subaru.  And because my family has been driving one for 14 years.  Old faithful.

In short, I feel like it’s a car I can trust.

And to my surprise, he loved the car.  I’m just here to open Joey’s eyes to my way the right way.

Like Springtime BBQing.

Isn’t it the best when it’s 7 PM, you’re glued to the couch after a long day in the sun, have no intention of getting up to make dinner any time soon, and Mom invites you over for brats?

Answer: Yes!

Fresh bright pancake flavors.

Pancake Sunday made a comeback after 3 weeks (!!!) and it came back with lemon poppyseed vengeance.

Note: The strawberries on top are key.

P.S. I used this recipe, and so should you.  I posted this picture on my Facebook and it is blowing up with comments.  Everyone wants lemon poppyseed pancakes!

 Aaaaaaaand.

SPRING CLEANING!

How predictable and cliche, right?

I’m like the opposite of a hoarder.  I like to throw everything away.  Except food.  That’s so different.

I have no emotional ties to the things I own, so that John Mayer shirt from 3 years ago that I’ve worn once?  Gone.  And that CU sweatshirt that I loved when I got but haven’t worn in two years?  Goodbye.  And those shoes Joey picked out and happened to actually be really cute?  Sorry, but their too worn out to wear anymore.

I’m on a roll and nothing is safe!!!

So if Spring means I get to enjoy all of these things, there’s a possibility it could move up in the rankings.

Until it snows.

Which season is your favorite?

What’s your favorite thing about Spring?  Say baseball and I’ll really like you.

Do people drive Subarus where you live?  Whenever I’m down South, I never see any, but in CO everyone drives them!

Weekday Things

March 23, 2012

Allow me to unload some thoughts I’ve had during the week on you.

1.  I’m finding myself less and less inspired to write during the week.  Or more like, I have less time to be thinking up things I want to write about.  Help.

But.  When I do get the itch to write, you better believe I’m doing it!

2. This the current forecast in CO.

Jealous?

3. I don’t get the Hunger Games thing.  When did these books come out?  How is that I’ve never heard of them, yet when the movie comes out, suddenly everyone and their mom is telling me they’ve already read the series.

It’s a series right??

4. I’m on a mission to follow every Food Network chef on Twitter.  I just like to feel like I’m part of the Chopped family.

P.S. Alton Brown is as much of a jerk on Twitter as he is every time he’s on Next Food Network Star.

5. I’m terrified of touching this door for fear that all these beads will fall off and I’ll have to untangle them.

Have you even untangled a suitcase full of beads?  I have and it’s not fun.

6. This granola is awesome.

7. I wish I remembered to wear this bracelet more often.  Grandpa made it 🙂

Note the fancy heart-shaped clasp.

8. We’ve been eating tasty things this week.

Spinach and artichoke dip pizza.  You need this in your life.  Remind me to get you the recipe.

Thai beef tacos.  Don’t even get me started on how I know nothing about buying meat and stood in front of the beef section for no less than 15 minutes at the grocery store.

9. Speaking of tasty things, I’m headed to the Melting Pot for their 5280 deal tonight.

5280, as in $52.80 per couple for a 4-course fondue dinner.  Hell yes.

10. I’M SO GLAD IT’S FRIDAY.

I got home and felt like I needed a drink.  You know, a green drink made with bananas and spinach.  That’s the kind of drink people are referring to when they say that, right?

And now that the week is over, please join me and stop thinking weekday things.  Only weekend things from now till Sunday.

Tell me 8-5-ers, does waking up before the sun is out ever get easier?!

What are you most excited to do this weekend?

What is the weather like where you live?

This Weekend I…

March 19, 2012

Started Friday off right by treating my new co-workers to red green velvet cupcakes.

Hearing how good they were and that someone wanted the buttercream frosting recipe did not get old.

Ended Friday right by going to dinner and a movie with Hannah and Josh.

Guys, I was skeptical beforehand, but 21 Jump Street was hilarious.  And I’m hard to impress.

Realized James Franco has an equally good looking brother.

Good genes in that Franco family, I tell ya.

Convinced Joey that going in to work on a gorgeous Saturday morning was a terrible idea.

Lounging in bed and eating a leisurely breakfast was a much better one.

Hiked up to the Royal Arch in sunny 70 degree weather.

Realized there’s nothing like a good hike to make you feel like you’ve never worked out in your entire life.

I woke up on yesterday feeling like I climbed stairs for three hours.  Oh wait, that’s because I did.

Remembered how much I hate hiking back down a mountain.

Even more so when it’s snowy and slightly icy.  I slipped about a million times and managed to fall while standing still.

Got coerced into drinking a pitcher of “Strong Island Iced Tea” by myself.

Had to have my sister drive me home from lunch…

Slept from 4 PM to 7 PM and only woke up because this was waiting for me.

My mom makes corned beef and cabbage every year for St. Patrick’s Day.

Every year we talk about how good it is and that we should have it more often, then forget until the next St. Patrick’s Day.

Fact: I could an entire head of that cabbage by myself.

Partied too  hard at 2 PM and ended up staying in on St. Patrick’s night.

#FAIL

Bought some really nice things for 50% off at Banana Republic.

It pays to have friends willing to share good deals with you.  Thanks, Jenn!  I’m about to look all kinds of professional at work.

Ended Sunday with yoga and a delicious bowl of corn and potato chowder.

And.

Learned that weekends go way too fast.
