Round Up: Springtime Happenings

April 23, 2012

1. It’s time to break out the sunglasses.

And maybe take a trip to the future, because that’s where these sunglasses belong.

2. My mom really wants to give her puppy a friend.

I fully support this endeavor.  And that puppy friend is totally welcome to live at my apartment.

Although I think that defeats the purpose of getting a second dog…

3. I do things like this at work.

I’m really mature.  And I’m not the only one…

4. You wouldn’t believe how excited Joey was when this truck rolled around the corner in our apartment complex.

5. Sometimes I prefer portabella burgers to real burgers.

But only sometimes.

And I always prefer sweet potato fries to regular fries.

6. I realized I’m not a fan of Peeps.

However, this cake was adorable.

7. I still love Biker Jim’s.

And will continue to use Rockies games as an excuse to eat dinner there as often as possible.

8. I saw baby artichokes in Cooking Light last week and squealed “Ooooooh myyyyy goooooosh, baby artichokes!!!!!” for a full 5 minutes.

I was super excited when I saw them in person at the grocery store.  How ridiculously cute!

9. I made Whole Wheat Butternut Squash Pancakes for Pancake Sunday last week.

Topped with bananas, walnuts and maple syrup.  Holy thick fluffy yum.

10. I watched Joey eat a slice of cake with a knife last week at his cousin’s engagement party.

And this was before he had about 5 beers, a shot of tequila and a Irish Car Bomb.

On another note, I’m so.fricken.over. being the DD.

11. We started a new Friday night ritual.

It involves tacos and it’s amazingly delicious.  Remember when I thought I didn’t like tacos?  Such nonsense.

These tilapia tacos from Cooking Light were so so good.  Really.  And tis the season for grilled pineapple!

12. This weekend marked our first visit to the Boulder Farmers’ Market this season.

It was just as expensive, busy and full of dog-walking people in workout clothes as ever, but I’m just so head over heels for Mod Market that I’ll basically go anywhere if I can eat their food.

13. We celebrated my sister’s 20th birthday on Saturday!

We feasted on pizza.

And ice cream.

And then all felt right in the world.

She’s not a teenager anymore!

Back to the work week, friends.

You Know It’s Spring When…

April 20, 2012

You suddenly notice these are everywhere.

I think “these” go by the name of flowers.

Your boyfriend’s allergies are making his throat have “that tickle.”  And “that tickle” is causing him make super annoying noises that keep you awake till all hours of the night.

For the record, no, I don’t know what “that tickle” is.  So I don’t’ sympathize.

Also for the record, “all hours of the night” probably means 10:45.  I’m a real night owl.

You’re looking forward to things like the Bolder Boulder.

Or, more accurately, you’re looking forward to the silly costumes, slip and slides and marshmallows that accompany the Bolder Boulder.  You’re not so much looking forward to the 6.2 miles that constitute the Bolder Boulder.

You feel compelled to eat “bright fresh Spring things.”

Like fish, fresh herbs and anything lemony.

You know, because I totally wasn’t eating those things during winter too…

For the first time in what feels like years, it’s light outside long enough to go for a post-work run.

You have to check the forecast right before getting dressed in the morning because even though it was 70 degrees yesterday, it could be snowing today.

Or is that just a Colorado thing?

You wake up wanting a hot cup of tea and drive home from work craving iced coffee.

You crave froyo even more than you did in winter.

I didn’t even know that was possible.

P.S. What kind of psycho craves cold things in winter??  This kind.

You just want to wear skirts.

You’re saying hello to hiking season and goodbye to skiing season.

Unless you’re me and you never say hello to skiing season.

Baseball season is finally here!

In short, the world just seems a little warmer, brighter and happier.

Has spring sprung where you live?

What Spring things are you doing this weekend?

That Time I Became Famous at the Rockies Game

April 18, 2012

I’m officially famous.

I know what you’re thinking.  “Wait, haven’t you always been famous?”  Just kidding.

True story.  Joey and I were in the middle of watching the Rockies game on Friday night.  I was learning how to keep score, when two Rockies employees approached and asked if we wanted to play the “High-Speed Trivia Challenge” between the 5th and 6th inning.  Joey kindly volunteered me to be on camera.  In front of the entire stadium.

Eek.

Let’s be honest, no one can pay attention to scorekeeping when they know they’re about to be on camera in front of thousands of people.  And I’m positive Tulo was watching.  So scorekeeping lasted all of 2.5 innings.  Pretty good if you ask me.

I may have been the one on camera, but I got all the answers from Joey.  And not only did we he correctly answer all three questions, but we got the fastest time, so my name will be on the leader board until someone beats my time.

Which ended up being two days later… wah wah.

And the $25 we won is totally going towards a new Jersey.  I neeeeed one.

Then the Rockies pulled out a win.  I guess you could say it was a pretty exciting game.

And I’d like to never be on camera again, thankyouverymuch.
