What’s in a Name?
First off, you have no idea how many times I just switched between capitalizing and un-capitalizing “in” in that post title.
But that’s neither here nor there.
Truth is, I’ve been semi-seriously contemplating a blog name switch. Food is and always will be a big part of my life, but it isn’t the whole of my life. Did you know I also really like wine, baseball and being sarcastic?? I know, I’m really unique and diverse.
In all seriousness, though, I want my blog content and title to reflect that I’m more than just food.
I may or may not have harassed my mom and sister for four days while Joey was in Arizona a few weeks ago, by inviting myself over for every meal and repeatedly yelling, “What’s the new name of my blog?!” at them. Don’t you all wish you had a daughter like me?
We came up with a lot that really sucked. Those were mine. And a few that were pretty good. And a couple that I really loved.
But.
And this is where I need your help.
I pretty much know nothing about making a change like this. I know you can pay for a site redirect, but does that mean I lose all my old content? And how about my readers? Will I turn them off by making what I hope has been a subtle change of content into a very obvious one?
When I started this blog, I felt like I was part of such a cut and defined community of healthy living bloggers. We all had a lot in common and it was easy to find readers and writers alike who had similar stories and paths, but now that I’m growing my blog beyond that community, I kind of wonder where my blog will fit and if there will be a market for people who just want to read my constant rambling.
So really, I would love some feedback from you all. Whether it’s telling me how a site redirect works, assuring me there’s a market for any kind of writing as long as it’s from the heart, or offering up another site name (hey, I’m open!), your comments will be much appreciated.
Oh, and happy Wednesday!
I’ll keep following you whatever your name is 😉 However, I feel like it can be a pain in the arse to change blog names. I’ve thought about changing mine or at least dropping the wordpress, but haven’t got around to it.
I totally understand your thoughts on this, I felt the same when I made the change from food blog to happy living blog. I didn’t have to deal with a name change since the name pretty much would move into whatever path I decided on. I am not sure how that works. Have you tried contacting the host of the blog? I have two blogs that I read that have changed names, but I am not sure how they went about handling it, and no they did not lose old content. Oh and I would totally follow/read regardless of what you talk about. I just love the bloggin community 🙂 Good luck, you can do it!!
Like everyone else I’m sure, I’ll still be reading you no matter what your blog name is! 🙂 The site redirecting thing is not as hard as people make it sound like, especially if you just pay the one-time fee to have wordpress do it for you! That’s what I did and it was easy as pie. You won’t lose anything. Your followers will still be your followers. It’s pretty sweet.
I know absolutely nothing about the technical aspects of the blog, which is why I don’t think I’ll ever jump to being self-hosted, so good luck with that aspect!! Whatever you decide to do, I’ll still be reading/following.
I don’t know much about the behind the scenes stuff when it comes to blogging, but one would have to think it wouldn’t be too hard to switch things over. Kinda like when I went from my wordpress blog to being self-hosted…and it only took a few hours for my guy to get everything squared away. I didn’t lose any content and just made sure to redirect all my readers to the new URL.
And although I am like SUPER behind and reading posts from a month ago, just know, whatever changes you make, I’ll still be reading! 🙂
