WIAW: Working Girl

August 24, 2011

Good morning!  It’s an especially good one today because I made the decision to take the day off from running today (my legs are TIRED!), so while Joey was up early getting ready to run 8.5 miles, I was still off in dreamland.  And now I’m about to head off for a massage.  I live a hard life.

Yesterday was an odd Tuesday because I worked (I almost always have Tuesday off), so you get to see what I pack when I bring dinner to work.  I know, exciting stuff.

Let’s get to it.

Peas and Crayons

And this is your friendly little reminder to go thank Jenn, the host of our weekly WIAW party.  Thanks, Jenn!

Pre-run Fuelage:

IMG_2465 Doughy nut butter date.

Despite what Joey says, this is not “just a date” — it’s a maple almond butter-filled date.  Duh.

Breakfast:

Aka my favorite meal of the day.

IMG_2483Peaches and cream oatmeal.

Peaches and cream sounds innocent, right?  Uh yeah, the “cream” I’m talking about is Bailey’s Irish Cream.

And alcohol is totally acceptable before 5 PM, if it’s cooked into oatmeal.

Lunch:

IMG_2506 I’m obsessed with this smoothie.

Except I use buckwheat flour instead of oatmeal and cocoa powder instead of carob and an un-frozen banana.

Basically, I change everything that would require ahead-of-time-planning.

IMG_2508

Perfect for in the car, late to work enjoyment.

IMG_2510

P.S. Did you know chocolate and cheese go well together?

Which means this smoothie is best served alongside a piece of leftover margherita pizza.

IMG_2512 Fact: Pizza leftovers > fresh pizza.

Dinner:

I’d like to pretend I had any part in cooking this dinner.

But it was all “J Dogs.”

IMG_2499

And Mama Pea.

IMG_2500

And Jenna.

And it was delicious.

IMG_2502 Peas and Thank You Jambalaya.

That we de-veganized by adding real sausage.

Shh, don’t tell.

And I’d like to pretend it looked all nice like that, but really, it looked like this.

IMG_2503 I was at work, remember?!

IMG_2504

I usually snack at work between lunch and dinner but that pizza/smoothie combo was super filling!  So snack was held off until I got home from work (I got sent home early, woo-hoo!).

Nighttime Snack:

Unpictured half a piece of pumpkin bread.  I dropped the first half on the carpet…

And actually screamed, “Nooo!” when I did it.  Luckily, the other half was safe and eatable.

Off to my massage, smoothie in hand!

Do smoothies hold you over as meals?

Do you ever have to bring meals to work/school?

Bahahaha! I love your oatmeal! That’s awesome.

I pack lunch for school all the time because caf food is scary…

And I do the same thing when I drop stuff! Especially when my ice cream falls off the stick. Whining ensues 🙂

Caf food IS scary! Good choice with packing a lunch. I would cry if I dropped ice cream.

Your smoothie looks so delicious! But no, they don’t work as meal substitutes for me, just snacks or the occasional dessert. I need chewing to be satisfied! And I still love your Baileys-for-breakfast. I have an airplane bottle of coffee-flavored baileys. Coffee=definitely a morning thing. As soon as I get more oats, I’m making this 😉

Please do!! Most smoothie’s do not fill me and I always feel like I need chew too. Good thing this smoothie has chocolate chips in it that always fall to the bottom 🙂

I was just looking at that smoothie the other day and thinking that I really need to try it. I love smoothies, but usually only as either part of a meal or a snack because they don’t tend to hold me over for too long. Maybe I’m just not beefing them up enough? And I totally agree that leftover pizza is better than fresh 😀

Making them *part* of a meal definitely works a lot better for me.

Smoothies can definitely be fillers! I have one everyday for b-fast. I almost always lunchbox it for work/school! 🙂

  5. August 24, 2011 1:05 PM

you just made me so. hungry. pass some of that smoothie on over here?

  6. August 24, 2011 1:54 PM

Bailey’s cream oatmeal! I need to try that – such a briliant breakfast!

  7. August 24, 2011 2:13 PM

ahhh I LOVE your Irish Cream-Peachy oats :] SUCH a good idea 😉

The smoothie looks awesome, too. Sometimes they fill me up – which still surprises me because I used to think it was ridiculous that a smoothie could be filling, lol. I haven’t had one in a long time, though! And yes – I pack my lunches and snacks for work.

OH my gosh your oatmeal looks perfect! Great photo skills you have going on too 🙂
I try to make smoothies with a whole bunch of satiating ingredients in them to keep me full

Smoothes never hold me over unless they are pumped with protein haha! I love your oatmeal, I am for sure making this…… Love me some Yogi tea as well 🙂

  10. August 24, 2011 6:28 PM

I can do smoothies as meals on some days.. it depends how much exercise I’ve done!
And I agree- pizza leftovers are always better.

  11. August 24, 2011 6:44 PM

Mmm that smoothie is making me hungry! Smoothies always make me feel really full at the time, but then soon afterwards I’m starving again. So I usually force myself to eat a little something with it even if I don’t feel that hungry. Man I really need to get Mama Pea’s cookbook…I’m so late on the train…

  12. August 24, 2011 7:22 PM

I love having smoothies as meal replacements. They’re delish!

  13. August 24, 2011 8:06 PM

I had that smoothie for breakfast yesterday….love it! I can’t do smoothies if they are consumed with something small on the side. If I eat them alone then I am starving within 1.5 hours!

Oh Snap! Bailey’s For Breakfast! You know, I always thought my breakfasts were missing something…little did I know, it was missing something fermented.

And I don’t know who made the jambalaya, all I know is that I will pay shipping and handling to have some sent over here to the west coast. Thank you in advance.
