Round Up

February 18, 2011

For some reason I’ve found myself at the end of the week with a bunch of leftover stuff.  And by stuff I mean stories, pictures and workouts.  Lucky for you all, I’m now writing a round up post to update you on all the happenings that didn’t make the cut earlier in the week.

1. Valentine’s Day Mud Pie

It’s not Valentine’s Day without a big slice of chocolate ice cream, fudge and whipped cream.  Joey and I devoured this.

2. New oatmeal glass

I have absolutely no idea what Chimay is but I do know this glass is perfect for oatmeal and really, that’s all that matters.

Gahhh, this was gooood.

And I obviously had too much fun photographing it.  It needed time to cool down, okay?

3. Hit salad

As in salads are either a hit or a miss for me in terms of being filling.  This was a hit.  Or maybe the two pieces of pesto pizza I ate were the hit.

4. Biggest brussel sprout ever

Nuff said.

5. Whole Foods robbed me

Everytime I go to WF and the credit card machine asks “Is this amount okay?” I’m tempted to say no because it’s always more than I expect it to be.

I went to the “Grains, Beans, Greens” bar and got lentils, wheatberries, chard, tomato sauce, asparagus and tempeh.

To be honest, I was really disappointed in this meal, Whole Foods.  It was bland and watery.  Thank goodness tempeh tastes like heaven.

6. Have you ever seen a celery root??

It’s freaky.

Told you.

I needed it to make a roasted white vegetable soup.  Would you like the recipe?  Celery root is a beast to peel.  Mostly because it didn’t fit in my hand and I couldn’t get a good grip.  I kept throwing it on accident!

8. I’m in the midst of a tedious “diet project”

Or so my health and nutrition teacher calls it.  We have to keep track of everything we eat and drink for 3 days (Thursday-Saturday) and enter it into a program that calculates the nutrition information of our food.  It’s interesting but so much work especially when I have to create new recipes from scratch.

9. Exercise Round Up

Monday: 3 mile run

Tuesday: 2.7 mile run (from my apartment to my car, which I forgot to pick up after Joey took me to dinner on Monday, oops!)

Wednesday: rest

Thursday: hot yoga…sooooo good!

Friday: 3 mile run

I hope the sun stays out so I can get in more outdoor running this weekend.

Happy Friday! :)

The celery root reminds me of artichokes! :)
I love your new oatmeal cup! :D

That diet project sounds fun, even if it is tedious! I love finding out the nutrition content of my meals! I haven’t done it for a long time though, I think I want to do it again so I can see how I’m doing!

I want to go to WF soo bad. There is one 45 minutes from my house, but I’ve never been.

That may be a good (or at least money saving) thing :)

Woah, I have definitely never seen a celery root. Although white vegetable soup does sound quite delicious. And that mud pie looks so rich and decadent- yum! :)

I have a recipe for roasted celeriac and carrot soup on my blog – it was one of my favorites!

I am a French girl regurlarly reading your blog and I actually smile while reading your sentence “I have absolutely no idea what Chimay is…” !! ;D Chimay is the name of a famous beer that comes from the north of France! This glass is big but it’s a normal size and shape for beer (but unfortunatly for me, I don’t like beer at all!) Now you know what Chimay is!
    Keep writing your blog!

Ha ha thank you, Sarah! Oddly enough I was at the liquor store last night and saw a bottle of Chimay but I’m not much of a beer drinker either (yuck!).

That pie looks heavenly. I love the oatmeal cup. I agree about WF prices. I have never seen celery root in person, what do you do with that? That is a big brussell sprout, but I bet it’s yummy. And I usually write down all of my eats daily. That is mainly to keep me on track with eating a well balanced diet. Cuz you know I have a tendency to “overeat” in certain groups and not enough in others.

  7. February 18, 2011 7:33 PM

lol that is a HUGE brussel sprout!

    • February 19, 2011 1:18 PM

It scares me when vegetables are bigger than they should be.

  8. February 18, 2011 7:51 PM

HAHA i totally agree about the WF prices… I actually tried to press no once to see what would happen. I’m pretty sure the cashier was not happy!
Love your oatmeal cup, it’s perfect!!

  9. February 19, 2011 6:52 AM

Ohh I love the oats cup! Yesterday I spent a whole LOT at whole FOODss too. I got some good eats though, so I’m excited, haha.

  10. February 19, 2011 2:39 PM

haha I always spend way too much at whole foods but I have so much fun doing it so I guess its worth it right?

    • February 20, 2011 9:09 PM

I could spend countless hours wandering around that store!

  11. February 19, 2011 8:48 PM

celery root is definitely weird looking but tastes so good!
Mud pie- YUM. Oats- look delish. I love that spoon! The giant brussel sprout makes me smile. It’s as big as your hand!
And lastly, WF- yeah… I’m always so excited to hit up their hot food bar or salad bar and then I pay… takes all the greatness out of it. And really, most of the time it’s kind of bland. Oh well, at least it’s healthy. ;)

  12. February 21, 2011 5:43 PM

Omg I’m drooling over those magnificent oats!! :O

  13. February 21, 2011 7:35 PM

That is one impressive brussel sprout! (Do they price those by the pound at WF because that might explain the bill!)

    • February 21, 2011 9:42 PM

I bought the brussels at the regular grocery which does price by the pound!
